Welcome to Class 3D! Year 3 is a big step for the children as they move from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 and this year the children are encouraged to gain independence by organising themselves and taking responsibility for their own learning.

Curriculum Overview Useful Websites
Click here to see what the children in 3D will be learning about this year and to learn more about our learning this term take a look at our newsletter at the top of the page.
The various activities include Spellings and Times Tables. Spellings will be tested on a Friday.
You can also help your child by listening to them read for 15 minutes, 3 times a week which will not only not only expand your child’s vocabulary and ‘ideas bank’ for story writing, but also help them with their spelling! Reading books will be changed regularly.
Your child will also need your help learning their multiplication tables in preparation for the Times Table Challenge in class on a Friday afternoon. Useful strategies include: chanting in order, writing them out in 2 minutes, responding quickly to questions out of order. The Times Table Rockstars website can be used to consolidate this.
PE is on Wednesday afternoon and the children need to make sure that they bring their PE kit to school on these days. Please ensure that this is appropriate for the weather.
Swimming is on Monday afternoon and full swimming kit needs to be brought into school.
They gain so much from these lessons and love doing it! Please make sure they have a clean and dry kit every Friday morning.

Christmas Craft Afternoon
We had lots of fun for Christmas craft afternoon. Our theme was gingerbread men!
Thank you to those parents who came along to join in with the fun :-)
Cultural Days
As a class we learnt all about Afghanistan to celebrate our class member Usman's culture.
We completed lots of activities including artwork, making flags, tasting delicious food made by some of our parents (Thank you!!!) and had a special visitor who told us a lot of interesting facts about Afghanistan and answered our questions.
It was a brilliant 2 days and we all enjoyed it :-)

Accrington Stanley- Give up loving pop
We were lucky enough to take part in the Lancashire ‘Give Up Loving Pop’ (GULP) project.
The project included 4 weekly 1 hour sessions (30 mins in class / 30 mins PE)
GULP aims to raise awareness of the health harms associated with the over consumption of sugary drinks.
We played lots of games in the classroom, looked at sugar contents in different drinks and learnt lots of interesting facts.
In the PE sessions we played lots of games linked to the classroom based learning, dribbling footballs, playing dodge ball and each child received a free water bottle!

Science...... Let there be light!
In our Light unit we were exploring light with torches and learning about how light reflects off some surfaces. To understand reflection, we used mirrors to write our name and it was rather tricky!
We monitored the level of natural light in our classroom throughout the day and found the highest level of natural light was at 12:15pm and and lowest light level was 3:15pm.
